haus of gloi litchi tea milk pumpkin butter review

For someone who loves the smell of coconut, I’m hesitant to try anything that smells like it.

When done right, coconut gives the scent a creamy and fresh vibe that makes you think of an exotic island in the Caribbean.

But when done wrong, it’s really wrong. Its sickening sweetness overpowers anything else and makes me want to gag. Ewww!

But when I came across Haus Of Gloi Litchi Milk Tea Pumpkin Butter – which has a splash of coconut milk – I knew I had to give it a go.

Haus Of Gloi never disappointed me with their scents. Even when they didn’t smell like I expected (yes, I’m talking to you, Apothecary), they’re still delightful.

Is this the exception to the rule? Let’s find out:

What’s In Haus Of Gloi Litchi Milk Tea Pumpkin Butter?

SHEA BUTTER

Shea butter is a godsend for dry skin. Derived from the nut of the Shea tree, this fat is rich in moisturising fatty acids and antioxidants.

Fatty acids are what makes it work so well: they create a protective barrier on the skin that slows down water loss. Moisture is now forced to stay into the skin, hydrating it from within.

FYI, shea butter is even more moisturising than mineral oil (what derms consider the gold standard for moisturisation). Its effects lasts for up to 8 hours, if not more!

PUMPKIN SEED OIL

Together with shea butter, pumpkin seed oil makes up the base of Haus Of Gloi Depravity Pumpkin Butter (the name kinda gave it away, didn’t it?).

What’s so special about pumpkin seed oil? It’s not that different from shea butter. Like shea, it creates a protective barrier on the skin that keeps it soft and moisturised for hours.

Plus, it has its fair share of antioxidants to fight free radicals, the nasty molecules that give you wrinkles and dark spots. Yep, your body needs antiaging skincare, too.

Texture

Rich. But it sinks in quickly without leaving a greasy residue.

Fragrance

Haus Of Gloi describes Litchi Milk Tea as “tart lychee fruit and black tea met with a splash of coconut milk”. Doesn’t it sound inviting?

At first smell, it wasn’t. I have to admit, this is a scent that had to grow on me. When I first slathered Litchi Milk Tea on my skin, all I smelt was a strong and sweet fruity floral scent. More fruity than floral.

The tarty sweetness of lichee, enriched by a big dollop of coconut milk, dominates the fragrances, while the floral accents rest in the background.

At this point, the fragrance reminded me one of one of those cheap, overly sweet designer scents that you can smell anywhere these days. I cannot even begin to tell you how disappointed I was.

But when black tea makes its appearance, things change. The fragrance remains sweet, but it’s now a tea-like sweetness. As for the coconut, only whiffs of it remain.

Overall, Litchi Milk Tea is a lovely scent. It’s not something I’d recommend to those who love opulent and decadent scent (Depravity would be a much better choice in that case).

But if you’re looking for something sweet and feminine, this is a great option. Like all Haus Of Gloi scents, it stays around for more than 24 hours.
