Here’s a quick guide to the best Dr Jart+ products so you can skip the fancy duds and go straight to the underrated highlights:

About The Brand: Dr Jart+

Did you know Dr.Jart+ is not a doctor? I know, shocking. Dr.Jart+ stands for doctor joins art. The brand’s philosophy is mixing skincare’s best ingredients and innovations with artful experiences. The results? Effective and playful skincare products that fix your skin’s woes and bring a smile on your face to boot.

The brand was founded in Seoul in 2005 by Leeo (Chin Wook) Lee. He was introduced to a blemish balm that was available only in dermatology clinics. Inspired by its hybrid functionality, he decided to start his own line to create products that blended powerful skincare benefits with the coverage of a foundation.

Dr Jart+ BB Cream became an instant hit in Korea and set the stage for many copycats to follow. Since then, the line has expanded to create moisturises, serums, face masks, and plenty other products that can banish dryness, soothe redness, and prevent premature aging.

What Are The Best Dr Jart+ Products?

Best For Oily Skin: Dr Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Calming Gel Cream (£32.00)

This lightweight moisturiser has a gel-like texture that sinks in quickly into your skin, infusing it with a burst of moisture. Niacinamide hydrates skin and strengthens the skin’s protective barrier to keep skin softer and smoother without adding more oil and causing breakouts. Plus, it has centella asiatica, the darling of Korean skincare. This plant has powerful anti-inflammatory properties that reduce redness and irritations. It also makes for a wonderful base for makeup. It has a few drops of essential oils, but if your skin is cool with that, there’s no reason to avoid it.

Available at: Boots, Cult Beauty, Look Fantastic, and Sephora

Active ingredients: Niacinamide and Centella asiatica.

Benefits: Hydrates skin and reduces redness.

Cons: Contains essential oils that may irritate sensitive skin.

Skin type: Combination and oily skin.

Fragrance-free: Technically, yes. But it has essential oils that make it smell good.

Best For Brightening: Dr Jart+ Pore Remedyâ„¢ 5% Multi-Acid Radiance Peel ($32.00)

Dr Jart+ claims this exfoliant can shrink pores. It helps a little with that, but there’s too little salicylic acid to unclog pores here. For the same reason, it won’t help with acne. Instead, it uses a blend of gentle AHAs to exfoliate the surface of your skin, soften its texture, and brighten the complexion. Its lightweight texture sinks in quickly into your skin, never feeling oily or tacky. It smells divine, but unfortunately its fragrance can irritate sensitive skin. Use it a couple of nights a week and wake up with baby soft, dewy skin.

Available at: Beauty Bay, Boots, Cult Beauty, Look Fantastic, and Sephora

Active ingredients: Lactic Acid, Citric Acid, Tartaric Acid.

Benefits: Exfoliates and brightens skin.

Cons: Contains fragrance, which may irritate sensitive skin.

Skin type: Best for dry and sensitive skin.

Fragrance-free: No.

Best For Dry Skin: Dr Jart+ Ceramidin Cream ($48.00)

Dr Jart+ Ceramidin Cream takes its name from ceramides, oily waxes that make up part of your skin’s protective barrier. Ceramides waterproof skin: they trap moisture into your skin, keeping it hydrated and helping it withstand the assaults of the elements. Plus, the cream has shea butter to moisturise skin and its fair share of antioxidants to prevent wrinkles. I just wish it didn’t have bergamot oil (it can be irritating for sensitive skin). But hey, you can’t have everything, right?

Available at: Beauty Bay, Boots, Cult Beauty, and Stylevana

Active ingredients: Ceramides.

Benefits: Moisturises skin.

Cons: Contains bergamot oil that may irritate sensitive skin.

Skin type: Dry skin.

Fragrance-free: Technically, yes. But it has essential oils that make it smell good.

Best For Acne-Prone Skin: Dr Jart+ Ctrl-A Teatreementâ„¢ Toner ($6.00)

I usually don’t recommend toners, but if you have acne-prone skin, you’ll love this one. It reduces acne on several fronts. It has tea tree oil to kill P.Acnes, the bacteria that causes acne, to give your clear skin back. Multi-tasking niacinamide helps reduce acne while also calming down inflammation (another of the root causes of acne). Plus, lots of soothing agents to reduce redness that always comes along with breakouts. Lightweight and fast-absorbing, it has a strong tea tree scent that doesn’t linger long.

Available at: Beauty Bay, Boots, Cult Beauty, Sephora

Active ingredients: Tea tree oil and niacinamide.

Benefits: Fights acne.

Cons: Tea tree oil may irritate skin, if you’re allergic to it.

Skin type: Acne-prone.

Fragrance-free: Yes.

Best Spot Treatment: Dr Jart+ Ctrl-A Teatreement™ Soothing Spot (£17.00)

A lot of spot treatments uses harsh Benzoyl Peroxide to get rid of spots. This soothing treatment takes a different approach. The key ingredient is calamine, an active with astringent properties that helps dry out pimples. Tea tree oil and sulfur come in to kill the bacteria that gives you acne, while salicylic acid exfoliates pores and unclogs them from within. Leave it on overnight and watch your pimples shrink by half. Plus, it’s gentler than other spot treatments out there. That’s always good news for skin.

Available at: Beauty Bay, Boots, Cult Beauty, Look Fantastic, Sephora, SpaceNK, and Stylevana

Active ingredients: Calamine, sulfur, and tea tree oil.

Benefits: Gets rid of pimples.

Cons: If you have very sensitive skin, you may still experience irritation.

What Are The Pros Of Dr Jart+ Skincare?

Dr Jart+ contains the gentlest actives, like niacinamide and lactic acid, to exfoliate skin, treat acne and brighten the complexion. They’re less effective than other treatments on the market, but if you have sensitive skin, you’ll appreciate them. They also have fun packaging and innovative delivery systems that make skincare fun.

What Are The Cons Of Dr Jart+ Skincare?

I have two issues with Dr Jart+ skincare. First off, they add fragrance or essential oils to almost every products. These ingredients can be irritating to sensitive skin, so if you’re allergic to them, stay away. Two: some of their skincare innovations, like rubber masks, are gimmicky. Fun to use, but don’t necessarily work any better than other types of masks.

The Verdict

Dr Jart+ has use gentle actives to treat wrinkles, fade away dark spots, and minimise wrinkles. Unfortunately, a lot of them also feature fragrances and essential oils that may be irritating for sensitive skin. And as innovative their products are, they’re pretty gimmicky too.
