nimue moisturizer plus review

Is Nimue Moisturiser Plus really plus?

In theory, it both moisturises and exfoliates skin. In practice? Let’s find out:

What’s In Nimue Moisturiser Plus?

SHEA BUTTER TO MOISTURISE SKIN

Shea butter is a godsend for dry skin. Derived from the nut of the Shea tree, this fat is rich in moisturising fatty acids and antioxidants.

Fatty acids are what makes it work so well: they create a protective barrier on the skin that slows down water loss. Moisture is now forced to stay into the skin, hydrating it from within.

FYI, shea butter is even more moisturising than mineral oil (what derms consider the gold standard for moisturisation). Its effects lasts for up to 8 hours, if not more!

UREA TO HYDRATE SKIN

Urea is protein garbage. Literally.

When your body uses protein, it spits out a nitrogenous waste byproduct called urea through sweat and urine (ewww!). Your body doesn’t need it. But your skin…. it can’t get enough of this stuff.

Urea is a godsend for dry and troubled skin. It can treat a truckload of skincare conditions, including:

  • Contact dermatitis
  • Eczema
  • Itchiness
  • Psoriasis
  • Seborrheic dermatitis

Urea works because it hydrates and exfoliates skin at the same time. Oh, it has anti-itching properties, too.

P.S. Urea isn’t the only hydrating ingredient here. Hyaluronic Acid also draws moisture from the air into the skin, helping to keep it hydrated. It’s so powerful, it holds up to 1000 times its weight in water.

GLYCOLIC AND LACTIC ACIDS TO EXFOLIATE SKIN

Nimue Moisturiser Plus contains Glycolic and Lactic Acid, two members of the exfoliating Alpha Hydroxy Acids family. AHAs have two jobs in skincare:

  • Exfoliate: They dissolve the glue that holds skin cells together, so they can slough off and reveal the brighter and smoother skin underneath.
  • Hydrate: They draw moisture from the air into the skin, helping to keep it hydrated for longer.

Glycolic acid is smaller than Lactic, so it does the job better. But it’s more irritating (there’s always a trade-off, isn’t there?).

Here’s the real catch: there’s not much of either acid here. The moisturiser may provide a very gentle exfoliating action, but I still use a separate glycolic acid exfoliant a couple of times a week.

Texture

Lightweight. Refreshing. Non-sticky.

Fragrance

It’s fragrance-free.

How To Use It

It’s the last step of your skincare routine at night.

Performance & Personal Opinion

The name says it all. Nimue Moisturiser Plus is super moisturizing.

After putting it on, I can feel my skin is immediately softer and looks that little bit plumper too. When I wake up in the morning, my skin just looks healthy.

After a few days, my skin improved even more: it was noticeably smoother and glowy, and it seemed that little bit firmer, too.

I expected the texture to be a little thicker, so I was pleasant suprised to discover that wasn’t the case at all. It’s lightweight, glides on smoothly, and sinks in quickly, too.

Who Is This For?

Dry skin.

Who Is This NOT For?

Oily skin.

Packaging

A jar with a spatula for hygiene reasons. I tend to avoid jars because the light and air they let inn can spoil the formulas – but there’s not much to spoil here, so we’re good.

Does Nimue Moisturizer Plus Live Up To Its Claims?

CLAIM TRUE?
A concentrated, rejuvenating night moisturiser that offers intensive hydration, softens fine lines and wrinkles and firms the skin. Mostly true. It doesn’t firm skin much.
Ideal for seasonal use. You can use it all year round, as long as you wear sunscreen every morning.
